The Miss Greater Watertown Pageant committee is proud that their teen representative, Nicole Lynn Nemense, won the CT State Teen title in June. Nicole will be a sophomore at Watertown High School in the fall.

Nicole is a competitive dancer who says that after she's been working hard on something, and then nails it, she feels a self-confidence "that's unexplainable."

“Tap Into Your Potential”- Building A Path To Positive Self-Esteem," is the theme of her issue of concern. It's worked in her life, and she's introducing it to other girls. "Dance is really a freeing type of art form. You don't have to talk. You show your emotions through your movement," she said after she was crowned the 2011 Connecticut's Outstanding Teen.

Nicole Lynn Nemense is a bright, motivated, dedicated 15-year-old who is ready to tap her way into your hearts. She has presented her self-esteem/dance workshop "Let's Dance" to more than 250 girls between the ages of 4 and 15. In these workshops, she introduces the Miss Connecticut Scholarship Program and says how its helped her to become a better person. Her platform encourages girls to use dance as a building block for gaining that self-esteem. Nicole says that as a young girl, she was introverted and quiet, and dance has helped her tremendously to build her own self-esteem and reach for new goals.

Now, her goal is doing her best at Miss America's Outstanding Teen, in Orlando, Fla. in August. “I'm ready to go full force with it and give it my all."

To thank Nicole for her hard work and to have a showing of all of her national wardrobe, Committee, family, and friends gathered in Watertown for a celebration.

Each year, a young woman earns the title of Miss Greater Watertown as well as scholarship funds that can help further her education. She is also entitled to enter the Miss Connecticut pageant.

Beyond providing scholarships for young women to continue their education, the Miss Connecticut Scholarship Program encourages the development of talent, physical fitness, poise, speaking skills and community service. The talent phase of competition comprises 30% of a contestant's final score, while the personal interview is worth 40%. Each contestant is also required to present an issue of concern related to community service, such as breast cancer awareness, literacy, or support for the arts education.

As you can see, the scholarship money awarded through the Miss Greater Watertown Scholarship Program goes to talented, well-rounded individuals.

Young women between the ages of 17 and 24 develop a talent and enter the pageant program. The practice and pageant rehearsals take place weekly for about two months before the show. During which time, other aspects of the competition are encouraged.

Miss Greater Watertown contestants may work, go to school or live in the following towns:   Watertown, Oakville, Thomaston, Washington Depot, Newtown, Southbury, Woodbury, Bethlehem, Middlebury, Morris, Lakeside and Roxbury.
